Now more than ever, CFAWL’s strength is needed to provide specific guidance to our community’s most vulnerable residents facing eviction and foreclosure. The Legal Aid Society has an immediate need for CFAWL’s volunteer attorneys to participate in “Virtual Advice and Counsel” clinics, which will take place now through September. We seek attorneys to volunteer for morning or afternoon shifts in housing issues. Experience in housing is not a prerequisite for volunteerism; the Legal Aid Society will provide free online CLE trainings, and will also pre-screen all client callers. Legal Aid Society COVID 19-response clinics are limited to 30-minute advice and counsel sessions per client caller, and do not require client representation. All client interaction is virtual. Volunteerism is conducted remotely with supervising attorneys on video conference stand-by. Regardless of the legal counsel provided, a short consult with an attorney conveys a sense of certainty, dignity, and respect our indigent neighbors often do not receive.
Please contact jmason@legalaidocba.org if you are interesting in volunteering, identifying yourself as a CFAWL member. We will respond with available training and volunteer scheduling options. Thank you, CFAWL!
